Class Reunion - Panic Mode

I have been spending a bit of free time on my trip catching up on a few blogs and avoiding writing this post because it brings my feelings of anxiety and insecurity to the surface.

My 20-year class reunion starts in a day - ACK! I am fighting the instinct to run and hide and skip the whole thing, mainly because it's all paid for already!! :)

Why must class reunions cause anxiety? Why can't I ever find the "perfect", extremely flattering yet totally frugal outfit? Why hasn't someone invented a safe and easy way to lose 50 pounds in 1 day? Why do I care what people I haven't seen in 20 years think about me? Why isn't there any chocolate near me right now? Why am I asking you so many questions? Why haven't you answered me yet? :)

Oh, I will go and I will survive - the Lord will get me through it, even though my issues are a bit silly. I will enjoy seeing old friends and laughing about old memories and 80's fashion.

Have any of you attended your reunions? How did you handle it?

  1. My 20 year reunion is in September. I have the same questions so if you get the answers pass them on to me okay? Just have fun and be yourself. Like you said why do you care what they think.
    Blessings,
    Kim

  2. I think the anxiety of a reunion dissolves once you're actually there. It is wonderful the way old friendships are renewed with a simple "hi." You are a beautiful woman, Lisa, inside and out. Everyone will be so happy to see you.

  3. I so agree with you. I have not been to a reunion in 20 years. We just had our 30, I did not get an invitation, confuses me, but oh well. I have not lived in my home town for 30 years, have not stayed connected with any of my high school friends, so I guess it just doesn't matter to me really. We are all so worried about how we look and how we will fit in. Life is crazy. Peer pressure at its best, even as adults!

  4. I really want to go to my class reunion, but I don't get the invitations - I suppose they go to my parents house, but they probably throw them out! I was kind of an outsider, I never really had any close friends in highschool, except one or two, and I see or talk with them reguarly. I still want to go though, but I can understand the anxiety. Just be your sweet self and everyone will think you are the beautiful, lovely, sweet gal that you are!

My dh is next year and I knew most of those kids/oldfarts now. Which means I want to look younger..so I'll keep the wrinkles stretched out, LOL!
Good luck and remember their all going to have added weight or hair loss. Just remember to laugh allot and don't wear prints..solids only (thinking slimmer) it'll keep'em wondering your secret...oh' listen to me I sound like your mother!

  6. I went to my 10 year even though I was feeling the same way you are. I had to drag my friend to come with me, and a bunch of people who did not RSVP showed up anyway and we all had a really good time. It was a little weird at times but worth it!

  7. 20 year reunions:

    A. Usually have dim lighting, we all look good in dim lighting.

    B. Pretty much every guy will be nearly bald

    C. Just about every woman will have gained at least some weight since HS

    D. Most of the people who will be there are feeling the same way you are, so just relax and let them be nervous, LOL

    E. Remember, the joy of the Lord makes us all look 10 years younger! :)

    Have fun!

  8. My 20th is next year and I am kind of looking forward to it but I am sure when the time comes I will be just as nervous. Maybe you can fill me in after yours is over;-)
what to expect and look for. I didn't go to my 10 yr. cause I was due to have a baby at any day. Just think though, everyone else has changed as much as you or even more probably so just have fun and create some "new" memories:-)
