Would You Like Chocolate With That? ~ Sand Art Brownies

*UPDATE*: I have added pictures for this recipe 'cause SOMEbody requested them! :)
I will try to have pics for recipes in the future, but I warn you - I am not a very good photographer. Enjoy!

I'm not sure that a brownie exists that I don't like, but this recipe is one of my favorites. And this is a recipe that can be layered in a jar to give as a gift mix. I'll give the recipe to you in the order it would be layered in a jar. If you're dumping into a bowl, the order doesn't matter at all.

Want a look at the finished product? Here it is...

Oops! Sorry - couldn't help myself...

Let's try again...

Sand Art Brownies
5/8 cup all-purpose flour
3/4 teaspoon salt
1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
2/3 cup packed brown sugar
2/3 cup white sugar
1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
1/2 cup vanilla baking chips
1/2 cup walnuts

1. Mix the 5/8 cup flour with salt. You can layer in a clean 1-quart or 1-liter wide mouth jar, starting with flour and salt mixture and ending with walnuts. (Or dump it all in a bowl to mix up.)

2. If giving as a mix, then attach the following directions on a tag: Sand Art Brownies: 1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease one 9x9 inch square baking pan. 2. Pour the contents of the jar into a large bowl, and mix well. 3. Stir in one teaspoon vanilla, 2/3 cup vegetable oil, and 3 eggs. Beat just until combined. 4. Pour the batter into the prepared pan, and bake in the preheated oven for 25 to 30 minutes.

I could really go for a batch of these right now (I think I say that every time I post a chocolate recipe, but it is true...every time.). My son doesn't like them (it doesn't mean they're not good - he doesn't like brownies - I know, how can he be related to me???), so that means more for me - heh, heh. This is a popular recipe, so maybe you've had them, but if not, you should give them a try and tell me what you think.

Now it's your turn! You can link up any family-friendly chocolate-themed post - old or new, recipes, pictures, ideas, etc. You can take a look at last Friday's post if you need ideas. C'mon - share the chocolate! :)

  1. I love the idea of giving this mix as a gift. I'm always looking for sweet little presents for hostess gifts. And this isn't seasonal. Brownies are good any time of year.

  7. Ok, update, I am so bad that I bought store brownies in the shape of footballs....just because my grandson wanted them. I guess I could post that, but the recipes might be kind of hard to come by. I will have to think about it.
