Works-For-Me Wednesday: Make a Little Extra to Freeze

I'm not one of those really efficient people that cooks a bunch of stuff one day and has meals in the freezer for a month. That much coordination and anti-procrastination from me could cause some sort of crack in the time-space continuum.

But I do try to freeze some things when I have a chance. If I'm going to go to all of the trouble to make a meal, it's not that much extra effort to double or triple ( I have even been known to quadruple which makes good use of my math skills) the recipe. Then I freeze the extras. Of course, it depends on how much time I have, whether or not the ingredients will freeze well, and how much room I have in the freezer.

The main things that I regularly freeze are homemade spaghetti sauce, soups, stews, and chilis. I make my spaghetti sauce in slow cookers and have 2 large ones that I fill up. So nice to decide that we're having spaghetti and just pull a container out of the freezer. I don't have to stop at the store (I always have pasta on hand) and it costs me less!

Freezing the extras works for me. For more tips, stop by Rocks In My Dryer for Works-for-me-Wednesday.

  1. You know what I've come to find out? My family can put away some food! I tried the once a week cooking and was like forget it it's hard enough to cook for this army for one night lol. But your idea is a small step toward that and a good idea.
Blessings to you my friend. Oh and I'm sure I've already breached a hole in the time space continuum.

  3. If you have any good freezer meals, you can post a link to them on Saturday on our blog. We are having "Please Pass the Freezer Meals" and it's always good to share a great recipe (and get some new ones).

  4. I love to be able to freeze things. I just started freezing homemade chicken broth. I freeze all our leftover meat for other dishes for later. Thanks for the ideas!

  5. I have never been good about making food up in advance and freezing it. I think it is such a smart idea, and a good idea, yet I have not done it. Why?? I don't know. I need to learn to do that.
