Melt-In-Your-Mouth Sugar Cookies

I've posted these sugar cookies before on the blog, but the recipe was was buried in the middle of a post about several things and it needed to be cleaned up and updated a bit. Why bother with it? Because these sugar cookies are THAT good. They're the best sugar cookies I've ever had and are my family's fave sugar cookies!

My Stepmother made these and gave me the recipe. My son helped her bake a batch when he was little so I have fond memories associated with these cookies. It makes them even more special! These are the kind of sugar cookies you eat slowly and savor - letting each bite melt in your mouth and melt your worries away. :) No frosting is needed on these cookies - in fact, I think it would take away from their deliciousness.

Melt-In-Your-Mouth Sugar Cookies

I cup unsalted butter
1 cup oil {I used coconut oil that has no coconut flavor}
1 cup granulated sugar {I used organic}
1 cup powdered sugar
2 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon cream of tartar
4 cups flour {I used unbleached}
Extra granulated sugar

In large bowl, cream butter and oil together. Add both sugars, 2 eggs, and vanilla; beat well. In separate bowl, combine dry ingredients {salt through flour} and whisk or sift. Add dry ingredients to butter/sugar mixture and mix. Chill dough in refrigerator.

When ready to bake, preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Roll chilled dough into small balls and roll in granulated sugar to coat. Place on baking sheet {I cover it with parchment paper} an inch or two apart. Gently press each ball down with bottom of a glass. Bake at 350 for 10-12 minutes, until edges just start to turn color. {Mine usually take around 11 minutes.) Carefully remove to cooling rack. Cool and enjoy! Makes up to 6 dozen cookies.

I don't make these cookies as often as I would like because I have NO willpower when it comes to them - none. :)

  1. They look amazing! I don't ever make sugar cookies because I think they usually require being rolled out...which I don't like doing. These look easy to make.
    I would love if you would share this at my link party. http://www.realcoake.blogspot.com/2013/02/real-family-fun-3.html
