10 Things I Find More Romantic Than Roses or Diamonds

Yes I know Valentine's Day is over and I hope you all had a lovely one as I did!  But I can't help wondering who declared that roses and diamonds are the only way to express romance?  I am not opposed to them mind you, but would rather get them some other time of year for no particular reason and even then they're really not at the top of my list of gifts to receive.

Here are 10 things that I think are much more romantic!

1.  A lunch or coffee date.
2.  A homemade latte in bed to start my morning.
3.  An unexpected kiss.
4.  Pile of dishes washed for me after cooking a big dinner.
5.  Pile of laundry folded and put away for me.
6.  Holding hands.
7.  Chocolate, but just a little bit.
8.  Thrift store shopping together.
9.  An unexpected fancy coffee drink brought home for me.
10. Control of TV remote for at least an hour.

What do you think?  Are flowers and jewelry your favorite romantic items or does your list look more like mine?

Have a lovely day friends!

  1. Definitely not a jewelry person, I do enjoy the cheap on the side of the road vendor, wild flowers. Because I think flowers brighten up any room. BUT I do enjoy everything on your list too and would like any of them better than jewelry. It's the thoughtful gestures that count.

Big hand me a coffee and the remote and no one gets hurt size hugs to you!

Have a wonderful day my friend.

  2. My list looks more like yours.

My husband brought me carnations for Valentine's Day: what makes that special is that he remembers that I like them more than roses. And I always tell him that it would be incredibly romantic to see him vacuuming the house! :)

  3. Oh, my list is so much like yours. Although I do love roses, they're my favorite flower. But I'd rather have a rose bush in the spring so I can enjoy them all summer. :) I never was really into expensive jewelry. The most expensive piece I have is my engagement ring. But I'd rather make my own with beads to match my clothes (I love matching things). And I'd much rather have a Dr Pepper and dark chocolate than diamonds and roses that will die.

  4. LOL..no, I'm not a flowers and jewelry gal at all. :)
Hubby knows what I love, and we are going to buy some rose bushes this week for me to plant in my garden....I like flowers that keep on giving! :)
Love the dishes idea too! ;)

  6. As much as we like to give each other gifts, my husband and I think the most romantic thing we can do right now is get out of debt! :)

  7. Lisa,

I loved this list! My husband isn't much of a remote kind of guy, so I usually get the remote, but most of the others apply! :)

  8. I am not much of a jewelry person, and flowers I do like, but they don't last very long. My husband in the past has blessed me with flowers to plant in our yard. I especially love the one about having the remote for an hour. In my house between the hubby and 4 kids, I hardly get my pick of the shows.

  9. I am there with the thrift store shopping together. I love that! And if we can manage to do it without the kiddos even better!

  10. I love your list! Hubby and I did actually end up at a Thrift Store on our Valentine's date. It's one of our favorite places to visit!

  11. Flowers are optional though Scott brings them home pretty regularly. Jewelry, well, let's just leave that at "I really like things that sparkle! A. Lot." But the best gifts are books that I'd never buy for myself (ie they cost more than $12). And somehow he always manages to find something I didn't even know existed but is exactly what I want. It amazes me.

  12. I do love flowers but what I really love is the ones from ALDI. They're only $3.99 and it satisfies the frugal in me too. The fact that Hubs knows that I'd rather he didn't "waste" money on $40 roses makes me happy!

  13. I agree! Actually, I was lucky this year. Instead of flowers, the hubs cleaned our entire apartment, did all the laundry, paid all the bills and cleaned the car for Valentine's day. It was one of the best gifts ever. And he even made a video of himself doing it all. Not trying to brag. =)
