You CAN Run a 5K

If I can run a 5K, then you can too! I'm overweight, not in great shape, and was out of breath after running a minute or two when I started. And I still did it - so you have no excuse {unless you have bad knees, bad feet or another injury}!

I started training for a 5K back in January along with a group of friends. It's best to have a buddy or a group to help keep you accountable! I used the Couch-to-5K training method and told about the experience after I ran the 5K in April. Woo Hoo! :)

If you do decide to follow the Couch-to-5K program {C25K}, I recommend reading my post 5 Myths of C25K. The program really does work, but I think you need to know a few things going into it. There are other 5K training programs around. Check with your gym, your local Parks & Rec, and local running shoe stores. Any opportunity to sign up with a group will help you stay on track more than trying to do it on your own.

Getting all the way to the point of being able to run the whole 5K is definitely work and requires some self-discipline. But I know you can do it! My friend Alicia from Confessions of a Snowflake shared some great thoughts about pushing through with the challenge of running {and weight loss efforts}. Also, for longer runs you will want some upbeat music to help keep you going. I just found this list of 100 Christian workout songs. Runners - what are some of your favorite resources for music and motivation?

You CAN run a 5K!

Have you ever jogged before? Have you walked or run a 5K? Have you been thinking about starting a 5K training program? Share in the comments!

  1. I love you, my friend! I scheduled your tweet to retweet it without even reading it bc I knew it would be great advice. Then I decided well I'll read it to see exactly what she said. I was so surprised to see an old post of mine referenced. Then I decided to read that post to remember what I wrote. And you know what? It was exactly what I needed to hear today. Isn't God good?!?!? Thank you!

  2. Oh...and my biggest motivator is to just continue doing it. When I stop running for a while, I get out of the habit. Then I lose progress I have made. So now I run whether I feel like it or not. And you know what, I actually kind of enjoy it now. Imagine that!

    1. You don't need to run. You keep plenty busy on that homestead! It counts!
