Talkin' About Thursdays ~ 5 Things About Yourself

I'm joining up today with Genny from My Cup 2 Yours for Talkin' About Thursdays.  She's so sweet and you'll like hanging out at her blog!  Today's topic is 5 Things About Yourself.

I decided there was no need to share the silly randomness as I've done that before and you can always go look at my 100 Things to read many random things about me!  Instead I'll share 5 things that most of you do not know and may surprise you about me!

1.  When I was in elementary school, I was in a community theater production of The King and I.  I was one of the many school children.  My Mom had to make my costume and help get me ready for performances by spraying my hair black!  I loved being in the play and singing the songs!

2.  When I was in my early 20's and working for a bank, I wrote a rap about checking accounts (just for fun) and gave it to the managers.  With their help, I put on a disguise and surprised everyone in a staff meeting performing the rap as MC Lisa!  Oh the laughs!!!  Later on all the employees learned the rap and "performed" with me in a video that we sent to the regional office.  I still have that tape.  SO funny!  We knew how to have fun!  Peace out...

3.  About 10 years ago, I had an opportunity to be in a marathon back in my home state (Montana) to raise money for the Leukemia Society.  3 of my California coworkers decided to do it with me and we trained for a few months to be able to walk the whole thing.  I didn't train as much as I should have so it was brutal!  But I did walk and finish the whole 26.2 miles!!!  I wanted to give up by mile 21.  The last 5 miles involved thinking about cancer patients, praying, crying, and just moving one foot in front of the other - felt SO good to cross that finish line!

4.  Before I became a Mom, I worked in banking for several years - all the way from teller to manager.  By the end I was a typical career woman working 50+ hours a week.  I did.not.cook.  My husband cooked dinner after getting home from his job.  I barely baked anything.  If I needed to take a treat somewhere I would usually buy something.  I only had a couple of desserts that I made well.  After I had my son and God pulled me to be a stay-at-home mom, I gradually took over the cooking.  People are always surprised by that now as I cook all the time and you KNOW I like to bake and make desserts!

5.  About 5-6 years ago, I first joined Weight Watchers as I needed to lose weight that I had put on over the years.  I loved it and was very successful!  I lost 30 pounds and became a lifetime member.  Unfortunately, I stopped going and through the years I have put the weight (and more) back on.  I struggle greatly in this area but keep working on it because I did it once and can do it again!  I am back at WW and working to eat healthier and exercise.  I'm determined to get the weight off no matter how long it takes me!  I have a second blog where I talk about weight struggles and share healthy recipes.  Making connections with other women who have the same struggles helps motivate me to stay on track.

Now you know a little more about me!  Hope I didn't scare you - LOL!  I look forward to getting to know you better!  What is something surprising about you?

Be sure to stop over at My Cup 2 Yours to read 5 things about Genny and link up your own 5 things post!  I'm also linking this up to Your Life, Your Blog at Real Life - link up your fave post!

Have a lovely day and be sure to come back tomorrow for Chocolate Friday!

  1. Great list! I love that you made a rap about checking accounts. I can only imagine how funny that was!

  2. Wow! Your experience with the marathon is really neat. I can only imagine those last few miles.

We don't have a community theater group. But I wish we did! I would love to see my middle son try it out.

    Have a wonderful Thursday!

  3. Well, I did not know this important information! LOL! Loved the MC Lisa. Now I'd like to see that girlfriend.

Oh and I never cooked until I got married either! And then I didn't cook well. I had to train myself to cook well. It was a long road but I like where I am today! Mainly because I like to eat good food! LOL!

Big Rappin' not tappin' size hugs to you.

Have a wonderful day my friend.

  4. Sounds like you were a performing from back in the day! Me too:-)

  5. Lisa,

I loved learning more about you! The rap thing had me cracking up; too fun.

And the marathon too... my husband ran one a few years back and I know all the hard work and dedication that goes into that. Good for you.

I'm so glad you joined in today! I loved this.

p.s. thanks for the sweet words too.

  6. I've enjoyed visiting and getting to know you today! Weight loss is something I struggle with as well, so am hoping I will find some tips/encouragement on your site. I have always wanted to act, have actually been told I would be great, but haven't done that yet. Maybe some day! Blessings!

  7. Great post:) I too have a secret weight loss blog, but mine will stay that way lol

    Thanks for sharing!

  8. Number two is hilarious. Thanks for the much-needed morning laugh.

  9. I struggle with my weight too, but have resolved to lose it this year. I'm trying out running, hopefully I'll be able to run the 5K in April.

  10. I can't believe that top picture is you, but I can totally see you doing the rap! :-)

  11. Hi Lisa, nice to meet you. Is my first time here and I like to read your list.

I want to read your blog so, I'm off to check a few posts.

I became a follower of your blog.

Stopping from My Cup 2 Yours.

  12. Love the rap thing! What talent.

I too am a lapsed WW member. I'm now going to TOPS (Take off Pounds Sensibly). There's no diet and no plan, but also no pressure. Just women getting together and applauding each other successes. I'm committed to trying to get to a healthy weight and to eating wisely on a consistent basis. But we also give each other room to indulge in what we love. Maybe that would help you if you have a TOPS in your area.

  13. Lisa, I really enjoyed reading these 5 things about walked 26+ miles???? YIKES girl - I'm IMPRESSED!!! You didn't bake??? gasp! :)
Ummm, I was looking for the LINK to the rapping video...UM, couldn't find it on here...must not of worked because I KNOW you meant to put on here for us all to see!!!!! :)
    Love you friend!

  14. I didn't start really cooking until I became a SAHM as well. Oh, the things we'll do for our kids!
I wouldn't say I'm a foodie now, but my family seems to enjoy my dinners :)

  15. Thanks for stopping by! What a great list! We have ALOT in come. I was in banking for 13 yrs. All the way from teller to manager too. I also did WW and lost and gained it all back. Trying to lose the weight this year. Maybe we can keep each other accountable!?

  16. Hi Lisa,

I stopped by from My Cup 2 Yours. Genny is the greatest! It's really nice to meet you. I have always wanted to do one of those charity runs for cancer (my mom died of head and neck cancer 11 years ago). I do have some hesitations due to migraine issues though.

My hats off to you for participating in raising money for a great cause.

Please stop by my place anytime. I'd love to interact with new women.

    Be well,
