This One's For The Non-Bloggers

You *are* allowed to read this if you're a blogger! In fact, I encourage you to!

Sometimes it's difficult for bloggers {like me} to remember that a good part of their readers are not bloggers. And those non-bloggers are often silent lurkers {I was once one myself}. There's an invisible group of people out there reading our blogs who want to feel included and connected. I know that when I started this blog, I wrote for anybody & everybody out there who might happen to see my words. As time went on, and I was mostly in contact with other bloggers, I often wrote {unintentionally} my words for an audience of bloggers. That means that non-blogging readers might not have understood some of the lingo or cared about what I was referring to in my posts. May I apologize to my non-blogging readers? It was never my intention to make you feel left out. {I haven't received any complaints, but of course I can't hear the silent ones.} :)

I do know that you're out there! You, my real-life Facebook friend that stops by and reads when I share the link. You, the woman who found me through a search, book-marked my blog, and occasionally stops by to catch up. You, the subscriber and long-time follower who has never left a comment. And you, and you! I sense your presence. :D Thank you for reading! I do hope you enjoy your time spent here in my corner of the blogosphere!

Some of you may prefer to stay quiet and private by not leaving comments or sending e-mail and that's OK {I'm totally non-confrontational and a people-pleaser, so hey - I just want *you* to be happy - LOL!}! But some of you may be quiet only because you really don't know a lot about blogs or how to leave a comment or that anybody even cares whether or not you leave a comment! By the way, all bloggers *love* comments because it's a way of knowing that their words have connected or are appreciated. :)

Never left a comment before? It's easy - really. At the bottom of the post {at the top on some blogs} after it says who posted it and the time, there's a number of comments listed - like right now this one might say "0 comments." Click right on those words to take you to the screen to leave a comment! Now just enter your comment in the box. Below that, if you have a profile set up on Google, Wordpress, AIM, etc., you can choose that profile to post from. Or you can choose "Name/URL" and leave your name and a link to your site if you have one. If you don't know what any of that is - just choose "Anonymous" {not all bloggers accept anonymous comments} and include your first name in the box under your comment. When you're done, click publish!

I'll try to be more mindful of the way I write in the future, knowing that many of you readers are not bloggers! Please forgive me if I slip up from time to time. And you, silent reader, I'm waving at you right now - you can go ahead and wave back! You don't even have to break your silence to wave! :)

Are you a non-blogger that has questions about blogs - like how to comment, how to subscribe, what is RSS, how to find a specific post, and more? There are no dumb questions you know!! Just click these words right here: "Contact Me" to find your preferred way to get ahold of me and ask away! I'd be happy to answer {if I know the answer!}.

Um, never mind. Turns out that 2 posts were sent in 1 e-mail and I just didn't scroll down far enough. Oops. ----> P.S. If you are currently subscribed to my blog by e-mail {thank you, by the way!}, would you mind checking something? I recently subscribed to my own blog to check on it and then did not receive Tuesday morning's post: 7 Random Thoughts {After Only 1 Cup of Coffee}. Did you receive that post in your e-mail? If not, then I'm concerned that you may have been missing some of my posts all along and I want to keep a close eye on that - thank you SO much! :)

If you enjoyed stopping and smelling the chocolates with me, I'd love it if you click the following words to Subscribe to Stop and Smell the Chocolates by Email or RSS!

Have a blessed day friends!

12 New Things ~ 12 Books In 12 Months

I'm so glad that I joined Sarah Mae at Like a Warm Cup of Coffee for her 12 New Things.  It will help me to stay focused on what I want to do!

I came up with my list of 12 new skills I wanted to learn or grow in.  For August, I wanted to help myself continue to grow in the skill of reading.  I barely read anymore and last year I followed my friend Charlotte and made a list of 12 books to read in 12 months.  Well, I still have 3 books to go though I will have 1 more finished by the actual end of August, leaving 2.  Technically I didn't start my 12 months until 9/16 of last year so I will use the additional 2 weeks to try my best to finish those last 2 books!  I can tell you that I never would have read the 9 books I have completed without that list!

My new thing for August was to create another list of 12 books in 12 months to read.  I used my same criteria as last year: a combination of books to help me as a Christian, as a homemaker, and just for literary enjoyment plus they all had to be right here in my home already!  Why books that I already own?  Because I have had a habit over the years of purchasing books that I didn't read (like the book Do It Now that I had for years, but never read - *ahem*) or started but never finished and want to make use of those books so that I can then donate some of them.

So here's the new list!

August:  Finish reading last year's 12 in 12 list (3 to go).

SeptemberCreated To Be His Help Meet by Debi Pearl - Have already started this one and am really enjoying it.  There are some very good lessons for me!

OctoberOrganizing Magic by Sandra Felton  - Well an unorganized person can dream, right?

NovemberPride and Prejudice by Jane Austen - Thought I should go back and read the book after several years of just watching the movie!

DecemberPilgrim's Progress (unabridged) by John Bunyan - Believe it or not, I have never read this!  My son is halfway through the unabridged version, so I guess that means I should be able to read it too.  :)

JanuaryYou On a Diet by Roizen & Oz, M.D.'s - I started this book a long time ago and it seemed to have some interesting info on how your body works.

FebruarySense and Sensibility by Jane Austen - Another Austen book.  Enough said.  :)

MarchThe Jesus You Can't Ignore by John MacArthur - Hubs read this and liked it so I look forward to it.

AprilThe Millionaire Next Door by Stanley & Danko, Ph.D.'s - Had this book for years and years but never finished it.  I think a lot of things have changed by now, but I'm guessing that there are still some good bits of financial wisdom.

MayOliver Twist by Charles Dickens - Never read it, which surprises me.  So I shall!

JuneRaising Your Children For Christ by Andrew Murray - I need all the advice I can get!

JulyEveryday Geography of the United States by Barbara Fifer - An older book, but it has some info about each state.  I'll read it aloud so my son can learn a little something too (we enjoyed doing that this Summer with a church history book).

The 12 New Things also inspired me to come up with a list of 12 projects to complete (because they kept appearing on my brainstorming list for 12 new things)!  Each month on my sidebar (it says August Accountability right now), I'll have a little section telling you what new thing I'm learning, what project I'm completing, and what book I'm reading. My August project is to set up a reminder system through e-mail for all the birthdays/important events through the year (not complete yet). I'm excited about this because it's already helping me be more accountable!

Do you have 12 New Things to learn?  It's not too late to join up.  We're linking up our August things today at Like a Warm Cup of Coffee, but you can always come up with your list and get it posted or link up next month (the last Thursday of the month).  Even if you don't have a blog, this is a great time to sit down and make a list of some new things to learn.

Did you learn a new skill this month?

Thanks for joining me and have a great day friends!

Reader Shout-Out

One thing that I greatly appreciate about my blog is the fact that I have readers!  I could blog if nobody was reading, but you make me feel like it's a worthwhile effort.  Thank you for coming back again and again to see what's going on around here and for putting up with my random mix of writings and recipes!

I would love to have a little shout-out for my readers by having you all leave a comment (if you've never done it - just click on the word "comments" underneath the post to begin) saying where you're from!  Will you please leave a comment today and tell me what state or country (and town if you wish) you're from?  It's so fun to see all the different places and find new friends at the same time!

Thank you all for stopping by.  I can't wait to see how many different places will be mentioned!

Have a wonderful day friends!
