It's My 6-Year Blogaversary!

Amazing! 6 years of blogging! I know - it's April and this is only the 5th blog post here this year. But I am technically still blogging, even though it's sparse! :)

If you're wondering about the lack of posting, one reason is explained in New Year, New Direction, but the other reason is that I started a full-time, outside-the-home job! Crazy!! You can read a little more about that in From SAHM to WOHM on From Lisa Marie.

I feel the need to celebrate this occasion with some cake, don't you?
http://www.stopandsmellthechocolates.com/2009/05/cake-week-day-5-would-you-like-cake.html

To celebrate 6 years, I'd like to share a favorite post and a popular recipe from each of the years:

It's been fun looking back and following along my journey through the years with you! Thank you all so much for coming back here again and again, whether there were new posts or not. Hugs to all!!

I'm keeping this post short and sweet. Just wanted to say hi, share a few links, and say Woo Hoo to 6 years!

My 5 Year Blogaversary!

Since I still wasn't feeling well, I did not get this posted in time. But let's pretend like I did {I'll even backdate it} - LOL! So that means YESTERDAY TODAY is my 5 Year Blogaversary!!! Woo Hoo!!! That's like...1/20th of a century! :)

It's an amazing feeling to have been blogging for 5 years! That's a long time to keep up with something, especially for me! I think that might even be an example of my 2013 One Word: Diligence! :) How many posts is that? Well, with blogging breaks and all, it comes out to 943 published posts. Getting close to 1000 - yay!

Thank you for being here and for reading my blog!! Without you, I wouldn't be here. Really. Just knowing that somebody is out there reading {even if you don't comment!} helps me to keep on going. I truly appreciate you.

I thought it would be fun to share a few past posts in groups of 5 to reflect back a little. And yes, I thought 5 groups of 5 would be cool, but I thought it was just too much - so I went with 3. You're welcome. :)

Party, Party, Par-tay!

Congrats to Lisa from The Cozy Nook - my See's Candy truffles winner!!

It's definitely time to celebrate! Monday was my 4-year Blogaversary {4 years - amazing!} and Friday is my birthday - woo hoo!! That means we need to party it up! Go ahead - have some cake! :)

It's hard to believe that it's been 4 years since I started blogging. Now that doesn't mean I've blogged the entire 4 years - I took a few breaks along the way and even "quit" for 4 months last year. But I've been back to it for a solid year and feel like I'm just now really getting back into the groove. I've also been a Contributor at Pennies & Blessings for a year now which has helped me stretch myself a bit {I just shared Chicken Enchilada Casserole over there}.

The Blogosphere has changed a lot in that time and it gets harder all the time to figure out my place in this online world. It's definitely a journey and I'm so glad you've been along for the ride! I do appreciate all of you sweet readers - thank you for being here with me. I hope to do a better job connecting with all of you in the near future.

**Giveaway Closed** In celebration of you lovelies - I have a special giveaway for you! And yes, it's chocolate - so one of you can literally stop and smell the chocolates! :) For those few of you who can't have chocolate, I can almost guarantee that you have family members or friends who would love you forever if you handed them this box of chocolates - so be sure to enter! :)

That my friends, is a 1 pound box of See's Candy Truffles. Oh yesssss. I will be happy to ship it off to one of you after I manage to pry my fingers off the box - LOL!

**Giveaway Closed** How to enter {mandatory}:

  ~  You must be a subscriber for this giveaway so I can reward an actual reader! You can be subscribed in a feed reader, through e-mail, through Facebook, or some other method {yes you can subscribe right now and it will count}. Leave me a comment and tell me how you are subscribed to my blog!

Extra entries {optional}:

  ~  Follow/Like me on Twitter or Facebook and leave a comment telling me about it!
  ~  Reader Shout-Out - leave a comment telling me where you're from {as general/specific as you wish}!

Giveaway not sponsored by See's Candy or anybody else but me. Giveaway open through 9pm PST Monday 4/16. Winner will be chosen by Random Number Generator.

Thank you again friends for sticking with me and blessing me with your friendship!

I'll continue the partying later this week by joining up with the Ultimate Blog Party hosted by 5 Minutes For Mom {and there'll be another giveaway - woo hoo!} - see you there!

In the meantime, don't forget - my sweet sponsors not only have great prices, but some special discounts for my readers!

Have a fabulous and blessed day friends!!

I'm Not Embarrassed To Say That I'm 39 Today

It's the last day of the big Blogaversary Party (still time to enter giveaways)! I included today so that it would be like I was having a birthday party at the same time - Woo Hoo!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
She's HOW old?? *Gasp* Yup, I'm 39. And not ashamed to say it! But when people ask me how old I am, I will be saying "almost 40" because it's true - I'm on the downhill slope to 40 now. Really, it's just a few hundred blog posts away. :)
Also, I figure that nobody will believe me when I say 39. No, not because of my youthful beauty - snicker - but because people who are 40+ often don't like to admit their age, so the next logical fake age to use is 39. So when I say 39, they'll nod knowingly and say,"Yeah, me too sister!" And then I'll say,"No, I'm really 39!" and they'll say, "uh huh.sure."
There are some things to look forward to when turning 40. I had some friends recently decide that after turning 40, instead of celebrating a "birthday week" (like we currently do), it becomes a "birthday month"! So why wouldn't I look forward to THAT? And when I turn 40, I can do a post that I have in mind - 40 things I like about turning 40. 39 things I like about turning 39 just doesn't have the same ring to it. Oh, and I'll be considered mature.
Reminder - I am only 39 and thus I do not have the memory problems of a 40 year-old. I might forget all about this post when I turn 40 next year.
How old are YOU??!
9 Benefits of Blogging for a Year
In honor of blogging for a year and celebrating with my Blogaversary Party, I wanted to share the ways that blogging has benefited me. If you're a blogger, you may have experienced some of the same benefits. If you're not a blogger, you may feel encouraged to start!
The benefits (in no particular order):
#1. Sense of Community - I was not prepared for the huge community I would join when I started blogging. I consider myself a mom blogger and have found so many other moms that give me support, encouragement, information, laughs, tears, and prayers. It is a blessing to have that sense of community online. I am definitely not alone in the blogosphere!
#2. Improved Writing Skills - When I started, I was just interested in getting my thoughts written in a way that made sense. Now I carefully consider everything including title, grammar, spelling, tone, and whether the article will interest my readers. As I improve, I feel more confident in my writing abilities.
#3. Improved Photography Skills - When I was asked to share photos for my recipes, I had a difficult time. It would take me 15-20 shots and some editing to get a decent food photo. Now it takes 1-2 shots and usually no editing. My photos aren't magazine-worthy pictures, just good enough to make you drool a little!
#4. Access to Resources - When I needed information before I began blogging, I would "google" everything. Now I find that I can get much more relevant, useful information from bloggers. I often find that other bloggers have already asked and answered my questions.
#5. Time with the Lord - Because of blogging, I was exposed to many women who strongly encouraged others to spend time alone with the Lord every day. This was an area where I was falling short. I'm nowhere near perfect, but I'm doing much better and am so thankful and encouraged!
#6. Circle of Friends - I have made some very good friends through blogging. These aren't just casual online friends; these are friends that could show up at my door and we would hug, have a cup of tea or coffee, and enjoy some chocolate together! I never know what new friends I might find!
#7. Product Review Opportunities- There are opportunities for bloggers to get sample items and review them on their blogs. This usually requires that your blog has reached a certain level of growth. Sometimes you need to sign up with a marketing company for these opportunities and sometimes you are just approached. I love being surprised with a package!
#8. New Writing Opportunities - I have had writing opportunities surface through blogging and the increase in exposure. I have been able to guest-post for other bloggers. I am currently a contributor on another site and have considered some writing jobs that I have seen. I enjoy sharing my writing with new people.
#9. Increased Computer Knowledge - I started out not knowing what HTML stood for, but now I understand it better. I have learned to work with HTML code a bit. I can also edit and upload photos and videos to my blog, which is new knowledge for me. I gain new knowledge monthly, which helps me to improve my blog.
There are several other benefits to blogging, such as maintaining a record of events for your family, keeping track of recipes and resources, encouraging others through your writing, and many more. I look forward to finding new ones as I continue blogging!
I would love to hear from you - what benefits have you experienced from blogging?
There are still plenty of prizes left, so be sure to enter! I will give one prize away for Saturday and one for Sunday, but will announce both on Monday. The giveaways will end on Monday night 4/13 with the remaining prizes drawn at that time.
Hope you are enjoying all the Blogaversary fun!
1 Year Blogaversary Party
**This giveaway is now closed.**
It's finally officially my Blogaversary!!! Woo Hoo!!! Welcome! Let the party begin!
What a yummy button (created just for me by Sarah at Real Life)! Doesn't that cake look delicious? Go ahead, get a big slice. You know I won't start without dessert!
And you better have some ice cream with it.
Don't worry if your mouth is full of frosting and ice cream right now - I'll do all the talking. :)
I am so excited to be here celebrating 1 year of blogging! In the blogosphere, that does seem to be an accomplishment. I do feel like I have come a long way since I started and have learned so much.
It was over a year ago when I was searching for a recipe online (it actually was the Cake-in-a-Cup recipe Sarah!) and found the blog Real Life. I loved reading Sarah's testimony. I felt we had a lot in common and that she was able to share her struggles and be encouraging at the same time. I was so glad that the Lord led me to her! I read her blog daily for a while and then really felt a pull to start blogging myself, whether anybody read it or not. I looked up resources and tips on Real Life for starting a blog. I headed over to Blogger and went for it!
Sarah was sweet enough to encourage me, comment on my blog, and answer my questions. Thanks Sarah! If you enjoy my blog, I would love for you to stop over at Real Life and thank her for inspiring me!
When I started my blog, I had already decided to post Monday thru Friday and knew some of the subjects I wanted to talk about. In the first week of blogging I wanted to know if anybody was out there, posted my first Chocolate Friday, talked about my son's ER visit, had my first Tea for Two-sday, and showed our silly Basset hound Buster.
My posts have ranged from silly ones like blogger confessions, or a newspaper clipping, to TMI posts like ugly aging and toilet seat covers, to serious posts about my mom, my son, my Step-mom and my sister. I have posted about tea rooms and teacup tales. I posted about chocolate on Fridays, often with recipes like Frozen Chocolate Mousse or Christmas Mocha Balls.
You can find out more about me by looking at 100 things, my article for The Sampler, and my Ultimate Blog Party post.
Thank you to all of my readers - those who comment and those who don't! Some of you have even become very special friends! It has been a blessing to watch the growth of this little chocolatey blog. I hope you'll join me in the journey through another year of blogging!
I know, I know - getting long here!
What A Fun Week!
Hello! Good Monday morning to you! Nice to be back from my blogging break last week. And this will be such a fun week!
First, I think I better give you an idea of what's going on this week, you know, so you can plan your schedule accordingly - LOL!
*Tuesday - Tea For Two-sday as usual
*Wednesday - Info about my Blogaversary and a Prize Preview ('cause there are a few prizes and some were kindly donated!)
*Thursday - 1 Year Blogaversary - Woo Hoo!! Let the giveaways begin! I think the latest count is 8 different fabulous prizes. One of the prizes will have entry instructions only given on Twitter, so you might want to get signed up there now (you don't even have to be a blogger!) and start following me @stop4chocolate
Look at this super cute button that Sarah from Real Life made for me! Perfect for dressing up your blog and spreading the word about the fun and giveaways! If you post it on your blog (or facebook if you don't have a blog), you'll get an early extra entry for the giveaways! Just leave a comment here telling me about it. Thanks for sharing the fun!
*Friday - The party continues with Would You Like Chocolate With That? - a look back at the year of chocolate and your opportunity to link up chocolate posts.
*Saturday - Thoughts on blogging; giveaways still going...
*Sunday - Happy Easter! Have a blessed Resurrection Day!
*Monday - Last day of giveaways and it's actually my b-day!
Well, I suppose you would like to know how last week was. It was really nice having a blogging break! Though I wasn't gone, I was busy with Spring Break sorts of things, baseball, and my Dad visiting. It was lovely having the mental break, but still hopping on occasionally to comment and twitter.
Thank you so much to my sweet guest posters for helping me out: Kim, Sarah Mae, Alecia, Donna , and Pamela. You ladies are wonderful! I highly recommend using guest posters - I liked having them and I like being one, too. I think I'll write more on that in a future post.
While Dad was here, we shopped and ate out a lot (hello - that's why I'm blaming Dad for my weight gain). We had a great time touring a Cavern and Dad and my son "mined" for gemstones - very fun! Dad also got to see one of my son's baseball games and it just happened to be the team's first win - Woo Hoo! Go Royals!
Dad is back home now, but we hope that he will visit again soon! We ended our week with more baseball, a little relaxation, the beginning of a backyard project, and then a church potluck. Now hubby is off for this next week of Spring Break. I guess that means I will be busy - LOL!
But it is my Blogaversary this week and my birthday in a week! Um, in case you didn't know - that makes this my birthday week. I may be using that fact to get extra fancy coffee drinks this week and to eat out occasionally! I was going to say that it should allow me not to cook, but then I remembered that it will be Resurrection Day this Sunday and I will need to cook for that! At this point, I think I'm making ham, scalloped potatoes, roasted vegetables, strawberry poppy-seed slaw and a couple different cakes ('cause I am still trying to get a Cake Week ready for you all in the next month or so).
Guess I should end this! Long enough post for you? Well, you asked for it. oh. you didn't. oops.
Have a chocolate-filled Monday to start your week out right! :)
